Amla pickle
Here's a simple recipe to make amla pickles at home:
*Ingredients:
- 500g amla (Indian gooseberries)
- 1 cup vinegar
- 1/2 cup oil (mustard or sesame)
- 1/4 cup spices (fenugreek seeds, mustard seeds, fennel seeds, cumin seeds)
- 1/4 cup salt
- 2-3 cloves garlic, minced (optional)
- 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder (optional)
Instructions:
1. Wash and dry the amla.
2. Cut the amla into small pieces or slices.
3. Heat oil in a pan and add spices, garlic (if using), and turmeric powder (if using). Let it splutter.
4. Add the amla pieces and sautΓ© for 5-7 minutes.
5. Add vinegar, salt, and 1/4 cup water. Mix well.
6. Reduce heat and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes or until the amla is soft and the pickle thickens.
7. Let it cool and store in an airtight container.
Tips:
- Use fresh and tender amla for the best flavor.
- Adjust the amount of spices and garlic to your taste.
- You can add other ingredients like ginger, green chilies, or curry leaves to the pickle for added flavor.
- Amla pickles can be stored for several months in the refrigerator.
